We passed the best of mornings at this beautiful orchard at Woodview Garden Centre – my hubby has wanted to do this since forever and it was just too good to pass by! I made a little instagram reel about our day and if you fancy a peek just head here or the bottom of this post!
Such a memory made day!
Now what to make with all these apples??!!!! I have a super easy mulled apple recipe below which is non-alcoholic and perfect for the family but if you like a little kick to your warmed drinks then I am sure a dram of port or whisky would be just about right!
This was the simplest and tastiest mulled apple cider I think you might find!
Ingredients:
8 medium apples
1 orange
10 cups water
1/2 cup brown sugar
4 sticks of cinnamon or 4 drops of cinnamon bark plus oil
1 teaspoon clove or 2 drops clove plus oil
* Cut the apples into quarters and place it into a slow cooker with the orange, water, cinnamon and clove.
* Cook on high for 3 hours.
* Mash the mixture and add the brown sugar.
* Leave on high for another 1-3 hours.
* Strain through a fine muslin.
* Enjoy in front of a warm fire or under a cosy blanket!
We also used an apple and pear combo – replace 4 of the apples with pears and repeat the recipe!
If you fancy another foraging recipe have a go at THIS gin – it makes a great Christmas gift addition and you need to get it stashed away now! Or to make traditional potato apple bread try THIS family recipe!
If you have a go at this recipe tag me using @gatheredthreads I would love to see!
