bullet journa
So I thought, as way of saying hello to you all again this beautiful May…(if you are still here!) I’d start a monthly bullet journal post – my virtual to-do list as it were. The one that isn’t scrawled over and crinkled.
My bullet journal is this one in black which I got from Unbound Ireland. And just for info – I know they are in Euro, but they ship to the UK really reasonably and if you’re local, and by that I mean you lovely Northern Ireland folk, get Irish rates.
I have started to keep my title page really simple – I love to photograph it with seasonal foliage, botanicals from my garden and local hedgerows.
My weekly I’ll save for a later date but here are my monthly May prompts!

+ home I am still into using natural products for most of my cleaning – not fully, but I would say for the most part. Check out the recipe I use for surface cleaner here and I have been using baking soda more this past month for my Belfast sink and the loos…for some idea on how to get started with natural cleaning check this post out. You can ease things in gently and see how you go – I reckon though you will convert over so easily…you’ll never go back!
In my bullet journal I record any deep cleans for the month so for May I need to:
defrost freezer / clean my windows / clear under all the beds / sort seasonal clothes / wash my garage door
This is on top of my weekly cleans – which is too ordinary to record here but maybe some time!
+ garden I have recently got really absorbed by growing flowers. It has stemmed (*yes bad pun but not intentional!!) from a simple gesture we extended by dropping a small bunch of daffs to our elderly neighbour. I had no idea the significance of my girls knocking at her door for no other reason than to give her this small but colourful gift; and yet, she arrived at our house the next day overwhelmed at the perfect timing of the gesture and emotional at the thought that we had been thinking about her. It sat heavy on me for a few days – the simple yet powerful gift. And so it began a shift in mindset – what if we could grow enough to do this for some other folk who might need this colour, this small gift in their day. I have so many ideas and have delved into the recesses of Pinterest into the wee hours of the morning – check out this board, but have decided to just go for it – to plant!
Over the last wee while we (and I say ‘we’ loosely as my dad has planted some in his greenhouse for me!) have planted:
seeds – poppies/baby’s breath/stock/sweet pea/cosmos
bulbs/corms – dahlias/calla lilies/ranunculus/iris/anemones
small plants – lavender/delphinium/fritillaries
fruit – blueberries/strawberries and my mum gave me a rhubarb!
May will involve weeding, mowing grass, some more planting and general tidying.
+ make I really want to try and make prints of some of my lettering and I want to improve my brush lettering. I have my eye on these and this water pen. I’m planning to do a bit of watching of YouTube for a bit of inspiration.
+ gather Of recent I have made a conscious decision to write a couple of names of folk/families that we could have around or invite out for a walk. I write it down because otherwise I’d forget! I’d keep meaning to ask them and berate myself for being such a wick host. So…on the May list it goes!
+ away This is a bit of a newbie for me but I find as the girls get older that we can take days out to places we wouldn’t have dreamt of a few years ago. I’m trying to ask if there’s anywhere they would like to go or visit which we can put on the list. It’s not major travels but those homegrown beauties that you potentially never visit. A couple on our list for May are:
The dark hedges / Kilcoan Gardens / Family Birthday weekend away
