Make or Make do
I have been meaning to do this post for a while now. It’s on my mind a lot…making do. I think it goes back to when I was at home with wee ones and we survived on my hubby’s salary; extras weren’t really an option and at a time when babies were being born all around me, my mum bought me a sewing machine. It opened up a whole new world to me and I started to try and make gifts instead of buying them. Using old fabric I could buy off eBay, steal from my mum’s stash or find in the charity shop, I began to love the remaking and reusing. Making and making do. And so, it began something in me; a sense of the maker, of recreating. The thought that a gift can be crafted and lingered over, which in my mind added even more value.
So I thought I’d start a little series – Make or Make Do. Each Monday we’ll look at a way of either making do or making something from what you’ve got at hand. I would love your ideas so we can share. To start us off I thought I’d collate a few of my projects that began as something else…so here goes, a few ideas to get you started!
Grab yourself an old (yet clean!!) tea towel:
Vintage bed linen:
Old Clothes:
// Make a cute bag from little trousers!
Fleece Blanket:
// A quick and easy infinity scarf – this could so easily be adapted for spring with a lighter fabric that you might have around the house, if you like me still love a bit of warmth round your neck as the days get milder.
I’d love to hear some of your ideas…if you make or upcycle something add the hashtag #make_ormakedo to any photos you take on instagram and we can share the love! Next week we’ll try a new little project that we can take on our shopping trips!
