I know I always say this but this is a quick and easy little bag to sew up…so easy my wee Madeleine (age 5) helped along! Perfect for her gutties at school or any little odds and ends you might need to stash away.
You’ll need:
// fabric 49 x 35cm (20 inches by 14)
// cord or ribbon 65 cm (24 inches)
// thread
// Sew a zigzag stitch around the four edges of the fabric.
// Fold the fabric in half, right sides together…short edge at the top, longer edge at the side.
// Make a mark about 4cm from the top edge of the fabric.
// Sew a straight stitch seam from the fold edge up to your mark.
// Repeat on other side.
// It’s a little hard to see but you should have two straight stitch lines going from the fold up to your mark.
// Iron each corner in from just below your straight seam stitch to the top edge of the fabric as above.
// Iron both top edges down.
// Fold over again by another 2cm and press.
// Sew along the bottom edge (to leave room to feed your cord through).
// At one end, feed your cord through, around the other side and back to your beginning point.
// Start at the other end and repeat.
// When you pull the two ends the drawstring bag should tighten.
This honestly should only take you about 20 mins or so…maybe half an hour the first time but it is such a great way to sew up a bag for school, make up, toiletries or anything really you can think of!
Go do it!
