I am truly such a novice at sewing. Feel my way. Have a go.
These dresses were slightly against the grain for me, they followed my first attempts at using a pattern…I made Maddie a pillowcase dress a couple of weeks ago and following that the other two girls plagued me for one each as well. So I succumbed and spent one full evening, having a go at a bit of a production line:
summer dresses.
I have to say I really enjoyed making them and love how they are finished because despite being a novice…they look so professional. All seams, knots and loose ends are hidden and tucked away inside the lining.
Love!
I used this tutorial where my friend kept me right for the pillowcase dress. In it we used an overlocker for the straight seams; on these three though, I simply used my machine and was really happy with how they came out.
The girls love them.
I made Abi’s slightly shorter as she wanted to be able to use it as a tunic, with leggings underneath and on both older dresses I added a strip of lace just up from the hem. I love how the pattern acts as the framework and allows you to add what you want as well.
Easily washed, I love they can play about…free and cool without the worry of it being a ‘good’ dress.
I get the feeling this is a template I’ll be using again and again!
