I went through a phase of making leggings last year and tried a couple of different tutorials but liked this one best. My Maddie loves leggings and wears very little else! She also loves to rake about so there are holes in pretty much every pair. I had no jersey knit so I decided to use a piece of fabric from a dress I had saved from one of her big sisters.
I have no serger so I sewed a zigzag stitch right around the outside after I had cut the pattern out. Am very tempted to get one…would it be worth it? Any advice welcome!
// I forgot to take a photo of this but lay your existing leggings on top of your fabric and cut around leaving 1 inch around the top and sides.
// Fold over the bottom edge twice and iron.
// Sew a double line of stitching.
// Lay your 2 pieces of fabric right sides together and sew along the curved edges at the top.
// Open the fabric and lay the 2 pieces with the leg pieces matching. Pin this together and sew from the bottom of one leg to the other. I did 2 edges of stitching to give a bit of strength.
// Measure a piece of elastic around your child’s waist and add an inch to overlap and sew together to make a loop.
// Stretch the elastic to fit the waist and pin into place.
// Sew a zigzag stitch around the top edge.
// Fold over and sew around waistband, stretching as you sew.
// I added a little piece of ribbon so Maddie knows which way round to put them on.
// You’re done!

These are so adorable what a pretty pattern 🙂
I live in leggings at home, they make me feel more dressed up than trackie pants do!
