I have done other embroidery hoop posts here and here but wanted to try out a new hoop that involved a bit of free machine stitching and I loved doing this.
I also tried out a boy’s name and another girls one whilst adding some extras…check out end of post.
You’ll need:
// An embroidery hoop (this is 7″)
// A large piece of background fabric (larger than hoop)
// Scraps of fabric backed in Bondaweb to use for initial letter
// Thread
// A drawing of the capital letter you’ll use to check against size of hoop etc.
// Cut out size of fabric for initial letter as desired
// Iron on the pieces in position
// Using the free machinery embroidery technique, sew around the edge of the fabric to create the finish you want.
// Place the needle in position again ready to free stitch the rest of the name.
// Carefully stitch along letters as you would if writing the name.
// When at the end then I stitched backwards to give it some extra definition.
// On the back I stitched on our name and backed this on to the main image.
// To follow more detailed instructions on how to finish the hoop by cutting and glue gunning head here.
I loved how it turned out and can’t wait to get to cuddle the little ba it was made for!
To see who I’m linking up with head here.
Check out my giveaway to win a hoop of your choice!
I made ‘Ruby’ using the same method but added a felt flower i had left over from making these headbands and I wanted a more boyish look for ‘Harrison” so went for a bit of tweed against a coarser blue fabric.

I LOVE this idea! I just finished doing a crafty prayer box swap and am wishing I would have found this before I sent my crafts out. But no worries…it gives me time to practice before doing another swap. SO EXCITED to make this 🙂
