What is it about being outdoors that is so good for the soul?
When at home our respite is a day in the Mournes; a hike through the mountains that removes you from the busyness and moves you to absorb nature and reflect on the absolute blessings of life.
I wrote a bit about camping last year. We had just come back from a few weeks in France…the Loire valley with its chateaux and beautiful woodland campsites, evening balmy bike rides and pain au chocolate overlooking the lake. The girls cycling around the meandering paths of the campsites, to the parks and down to catch fish in their nets…a freedom they don’t get as much when at home.
So nourishing, so soothing, so restorative.
We love being away. In the tent…away from the noise and the familiarity of daily life.
It’s not always relaxing and at times it seems like you sweep, tidy and clean as much as at home, but it’s more simple, a more basic few weeks. Next to the elements and near to the soil. Somehow our more primitive selves relate to this. Love it.
As I get organised for a few weeks away in July again I’ll maybe share a little of what we do, plan and take. If you’re a camper and have any tips…send them my way!!!

So true. Especially love "reflect on the absolute blessings of life". I just returned from a mountain retreat and feel much the same.
