Am contributing over on Gingersnap Crafts today so pop over and have a look at a little tutorial I did for my Sewing with Kids series!
On a different note…I was asked by a friend to make a cushion for a baby present. I had a bit of a brief which always helps! To see who I’m linking up with check out here.
Here’s how…
// Cut out 3 pieces of background fabric for the cushion base. One square and 2 smaller rectangles which will cross over to create an envelope back.
// Cut out 3 pieces of background fabric for the cushion base. One square and 2 smaller rectangles which will cross over to create an envelope back.
// I chose the fabrics for the appliqué and cut out the shapes I wanted. These were all backed with Bondaweb so are easy to iron on to the front piece of the cushion.
// Hand stitch the name using a basic running stitch. I used three strands of embroidery thread.
// Hem one the back pieces and for the other I created a bias binding of contrasting fabric.
// Fold the bias binding around the edge of the remaining back piece and sew in place.
// Use the free embroidery technique to zigzag around the edges of all the appliqué pieces.
// Use a straight stitch to create a mast between the two sails which links to the boat base. When I free stitch I tend to go around the shape three times to give the finish I like!
// Overlap the two back pieces (both facing up) and place the front piece on top, facing down. Pin in place.
// Using an air drying pen, rule the dimensions of the cushion size required.
// Sew along these guides.
// Turn right side round and voilà!
// Now you can create any style and size you like!
