Ready for school: diy box pencil case

29/08/16

pencil title

A little purse is ALWAYS a handy thing to have for those necessities. Of recent, I have been carrying this little box purse as an oil bag for all my ‘on the go’ oils – the ones I use on a daily basis! Peppermint, Peace and Calming II, a Valor roller, a Thieves roller, a Stress Away roller and a couple of lipbalms! They are handy in my bag when I need them!

I had some gorgeous linen and decided to contrast it with a muted floral fabric I had bought a while back…I am so pleased with it that I might just keep it as a make up bag for my handbag!

fabric

You’ll need:

*2 contrasting fabrics, zip, scissors, sewing machine, vanishing pen, pins and measuring tape

lining contrast
fabric cut

// Cut the two different fabric into 2 pieces each 5 1/2 by 9 1/2 inches

pencil case layers

// Lay your outer fabric face up, zip (face down) and lining (face down)

// Pin and sew using the zipper foot on your machine

zipper

// Fold the fabric back to one side of the zip.

layers

// Layer your fabric. Second piece of lining fabric face up, zip (and first layers of fabric with outer fabric facing up) and last piece of outer fabric face down with the top edge lined up with the top edge of the zip. Pin and sew.

zip
lining pins

// Press and fold the two pieces of outer fabric right sides together. Pin. Sew along this long edge.

lining zip

// Make sure your zip is half open and position so that zip is face down in top centre of the pencil case. Sew along the two ends, taking care sewing over the zip so that your needle doesn’t break.

line
lining

// Pinch each corner of the pencil case and measure a line across from edge to edge of 2 1/2 inches. Draw a line and sew along this. Cut off the excess fabric. Do this for all 4 corners.

// Knot edges and turn right side round.

That’s it, you’re done…all ready for school or work or for those ‘on the go’ oils!!

  • Happy Spring! I brought this blossom in yesterday and it has already faded by this morning! Some things are just meant to blossom where they are planted! Take that how you will this beautiful Sunday morning! I hope you have a restful one xx
  • I have started writing a regular reflections page in my journal as a way of getting everything out of my head. I find it so good to empty the jumbled thoughts onto a page - doesn’t have to be coherent or look pretty but it definitely helps, especially if I have things playing on my mind that can turn over in my head into the wee hours! Have you ever tried it? Swipe across to see some of the research I found!
  • Are daffs not just the best pick me up?! I have missed having seasonal flowers in my house! There are plenty of seeds just starting to sprout in my greenhouse tent so I’m looking forward to having my own endless supply come late spring/summer but for now I will enjoy the splash of colour that the spring daffodils bring! Happy Monday! Tell me if you have some seeds planted/ordered??
  • I love that it is March! It feels like the Thursday night before the weekend; the whole of spring and summer to come! • Done is better than perfect! Pretty much my mantra at the minute for so many things! This is a little quote I have written, printed out and stuck on! Thinking about maybe creating some monthly journal printables, quotes and stickers you could use in your planning or to stick on your wall as inspiration! Let me know on stories if that would interest you! I’ll let you have a sneak peek of my March collection so far! In the meantime enjoy the rest of your Sunday! xx

  • Happy Sunday! Hope it’s a slow one! Am enjoying using my table for my backgrounds - the hubby finished it this morning. Now to decide about wax etc? Paint the legs or not, what do you think??
  • Morning February! A muted good morning though! I quite like the month of February - always feel we turn a bit of a corner and the longer days feel more within reach! I have a little bullet journal cover coming for you tomorrow and I’m trying to get it to save properly so you can download it if you wish! I’m considering it a slow start this month so the fact that I haven’t sorted my newsletter or my journal goes to show we all need to go with the flow sometimes and relieve ourselves of the pressure we needlessly
  • I have been enjoying getting myself organised but haven’t actually planted any seeds yet for my greenhouse! Am thinking this weekend when the snow has gone!!! But at least am prepared! Anyone else find the days disappear and between the juggle it’s hard to account for the hours??? Anyway! Happy Tuesday...! xx
