Instructions for

A foraged
christmas
Wreath

LET'S START HERE!

This is an overview of making of your wreath. Watch it now as an outline of the whole process or come back to it at a stage if you get stuck!

This wreath is made with a wire ring base but the principles remain the same whether it is a wire, willow or twisted vine wreath base.

I can’t wait to see what you have made!

What you will need!

Here is what you have in your kit tote bag:

  • willow wreath base
  • floral wire
  • eucalyptus
  • pine cones
  • oranges
  • cinnamon sticks
  • vintage bell
  •
You are ready to watch the video on how to forage for your greenery!

FORAGING!

I am so looking forward to sharing a little of this video about foraging for foliage for your wreath.
A wreath is made of small posies that you lay on top of each other and wrap around the willow base. I like to make each posy using the same greenery and then add in my pine cones etc when I am finished.
I make each posy with a combination of the foliage I have collected and aim to combine textures and colours. So when I go foraging I keep in mind what I am looking for; I do also allow myself to be surprised – seed heads or berries can be lovely additions to the base of greenery.
In the video I take you through a foraging walk and the combination of greenery I collect….send me a message if you have any questions!

So when you are foraging look for:

  • texture
  • colour
  • interesting detail – seedheads/berries etc
  • structural greens – they will give you a good base
  • anything that  might dry

I tend to make each posy a variety on the same theme. I choose from the same selection of foliage and that gives me an overall cohesive wreath. Keep looking out for the texture in the foliage….these little sprigs can add such detail to your wreath. Cut enough to add to each posy – I usually aim for about 12 mini posies – these alongside the main greenery will add great texture!

constructing!

Some written instructions for you to refer back to:

Step 1: Wrap the wire around your willow/ring several times. Gather a posy using your foraged foliage and lay on the willow. Wrap the wire around.

Step 2: Create a second posy and lay over the first so you have covered the wire. Secure this to the willow by wrapping with the wire.

Step 3: Continue with this process around the whole base.

Step 4: Tuck the last posy under the first.

Step 5: Bring the wire to the back, cut and thread through the back to secure.

Step 6: Wire any extras individually and attach to the wreath where you would like. Twist at the back and secure each on to the wire ring base.

Step 7: Thread through the string to hang and add the bell.

You are done! Hang on your door!

ADDING DETAIL!

In your box you got some dried orange slices, pine cones, cinnamon sticks and a lotus flower. In this video you will see how each detail is wired ready to attach to your wreath.
Once you have wired each individual detail then simply wire it into the wreath where you choose – keep holding up to check the spacing of where you place each individual extra. Twist at the back to ensure everything is healed in place.

You're finished - well done!

I hope you love getting outside and creating your wreath. I would love to see your finished creation! Tag me at @gatheredthreads
