a wee word of welcome

autumn space

Ready to flourish?

THIS IS YOUR PLACE

Together we are going to walk through autumn, cultivating the ways that help us to flourish in our everyday..

This is not a space to rush through and ‘tick’ off the boxes, but instead to use the videos and downloads as tools.

There are videos to watch and autumn printables to keep you inspired!

Whatever season of life you find yourself in, busyness and overwhelm can creep in to stifle and suffocate.

My hope is that this space will help bring you to a place where you experience some of the freedom that nurturing simple, natural and creative ideas can bring.

Unsure of how to start being more intentional and carving out times of quiet and thought? You might like these prompts.
Begin by setting up your space and create a place of sanctuary. A still space leaves room for you to meditate and focus on prayers, thoughts and feelings. Then use these to prompt your thoughts and to dig into what holds you back from a calm mind.

Here are some of the links from the video – they are a great place to start:

Your challenge this week is to have a go!

Print out the monthly grid or create your own simple layout. Have a read through some of the links above and see how you can best get started but I would say this – just begin! Don’t aim to make it pretty or perfect….do it for you. What works for you.

Remember to tag me with @gatheredthreads if you share your creations or journalling time on insta.

TWO: FORAGING IN AUTUMN

Foraging is one of those amazing things you can do at any time of year. It looks to the abundance of nature and allows you to bring a snippet into your home. Because of the seasonal shifts and the amazing variety you are unlike to ever create the same thing twice. For our autumn foraging I have walked you through a short trip to the forest. I often take my secateurs with me as a few trimmings here and there can build up to more than what is needed for what I am making.

At the end of the video I give you a quick challenge and I would love to see how you get on if you have a go. Tag me on @gatheredthreads if you bring home some gatherings to pop in a vase, make a swag or create a wreath like we will be doing next week!

Here are some things I mentioned in the video:

+  tread lightly

We need to be sustainable when we forage and we never want to harm a plant by stripping it of vital leaves and branches.

+ look for whimsy

The many beautiful structures of seed heads, berries and foliage can add real depth and variety to your creations. Quite often the beauty of these can be overlooked so when you are foraging look small…notice the little things that might bring beautiful dimension to your bundle. Often these seed heads will dry really well too so will last for a longer time in your decoration.

+ colour

When you begin to look around you will notice the huge range of colour, even within the greens of the leaves. Use this to add interest and variety to what you choose. Choosing one stem of foliage from a wider range of plants can give a much more interesting look.

+ texture

Look for different types of leaves! Tiny needles to larger and more structural branches can add such variety and bulk out your foraged bundle.

I can’t wait to see how you get on!

Happy foraging!!

THREE: Simple autumn wreath

I love creating these! A simple mini wreath that takes literally minutes to make!

The power of doing something creative and simple is huge for your mind and your general well-being. A total cut off from the complexities of life; allowing you to focus on the task at hand.

Enjoying ‘playing’ with foliage and having something beautiful for your home at the end is just the best kind of feeling!

You can use dried flowers like I have in the video or gather some foraged foliage and details like we did last week. Follow the instructions to enjoy this little handmade wreath as an autumnal touch in your home.

As always if you try it then I would love to see.

FOUR: CUltivating solitude

This is one of my must dos!  Carving out times of quiet helps me function and helps me cope with what life throws. Sometimes I will journal and meditate and others I will enjoy a quiet cuppa, sit outside or go for a walk. No matter what, I find time. It is a non-negotiable for me.

Take the slides in the workshop and use them to sit in the quiet.

Create a lovely space and grab a cuppa and a notebook if you would like.

Think about something you could use to draw you back to that space when life feels fraught or hurried.

enjoy the quiet!
